About Alaric
Alaric is probably best known to TV audiences as the endearing nasal-voiced newscaster Andre Chichak and the charming news anchor Xin HuaHua, in Mediacorp Channel 5’s popular parody showThe Noose (2007-2018). His performance has earned him continuous recognition at the Asian Television Awards with the Best Comedy Actor Nomination two years in a row in 2010 and 2011.
Alaric’s humble beginnings in the entertainment industry started when he was seventeen. Discovered by director Glen Goei, Alaric was cast in the memorable local movie, Forever Fever (1998). Since then, Alaric has taken on diverse roles, including dramatic performances in Ang Tao Mui (2008), Love is Love “Sunset” (2014), Rise (2016), and HBO Asia’s first original series Serangoon Road (2012). He has delivered well-received comic turns in ground-breaking award-winning series, such as Money (2000), The Yang Sisters (2008), Spouse For House (2013), and Le Prawn Park (2020), amongst many others.
A Bilingual actor, Alaric has also delivered stellar performances in several regional Mandarin movies like 爱情十八克(2008 - aka 18 Grams of Love), 美好冤家(2011 - aka Perfect Rivals), and Zombiepura (2018).
A gifted orator, Alaric has also hosted a variety of road shows to Dinner-&-dances, to high profile banquets involving National Statesmen, Politicians and Ambassadors. Bringing his unique touch to the art of hosting, this former artiste of the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company, was also once a dancer!
With various performance credits to his name, Alaric has also produced, written and directed several short films and TV shows that have received critical acclaim at international film festivals around the world, including Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF), and the ReelHeART International Film Festival (RHIFF). In 2017, Alaric directed and co-produced HBO Asia’s first comedy-drama series Sent (2016), starring Haresh Tilani (Ministry of Funny) and Adrian Pang (That’s The Way I Like It).
In addition to the starring role, Alaric was also Executive Producer of Zombiepura, - Singapore's first wide-released zombie movie. Since its world premiere in Oct 2018 at the Scream Asia Film Festival, it’s had a successful run in local cinemas across Singapore. The movie has played in cinemas across eleven territories in Asia, including Malaysia, Philippines, and South Korea. A collectors DVD was also released in Japan.
An award-winning filmmaker and performer, Alaric’s list of accolades include the Diamond Award for Best NSF Artiste by the SAF Music & Drama Company in 2003; Commendations at the Asian Television Awards for Best Comedy Performance by an Actor for The Noose, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Serangoon Road. In 2008, his film When We Were Bengs clinched The Best Experimental Film, Best Editing and Best Sound Design awards at the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada.
The beginning of 2022 saw Alaric grace the web with a 3-part water conservation series titled The Investigations of Serius Li.
